The work behind the walls.

Through a rare combination of hands-on building experience and Ivy League education, Dr. Ethan Lussky creates distinctive timber-frame additions, guest suites, backyard offices, saunas, and ADUs that are built to last—and designed to feel at home.

Ethan’s interest in building began early, alongside a deep curiosity about the natural world, human habitats, and the relationship between materials, land, and daily life. He gained practical construction experience building decks and additions before studying traditional building practices, environmental science, human ecology, sustainability, and the humanities at Macalester College.

While living off-grid in remote central Maine, Ethan bought his first sawmill, taught himself timber framing, and built his first timber frame while teaching and completing his doctoral dissertation at Brown University.

Today, he combines traditional craftsmanship—including timber joinery, stone, lath-and-plaster, and board-and-batten construction—with modern, code-compliant building science, high-performance insulation, air sealing, and durable weather detailing. His work draws particular inspiration from early American and Japanese timber framing, where structure, proportion, material, and joinery are visible and intentional.

Every project is tailored to its purpose, setting, architectural character, and budget. From careful planning through structural work, enclosure, and finish details, Ethan’s goal is simple: to create buildings that serve everyday life beautifully and belong naturally to the home and landscape around them.
